This is one of those times. Too many idiots seem to think that because they have fireplaces they ought to use them on nights like tonight. Combine that with the twits who burn leaves on the weekend and I can barely breathe. My nostrils are burning, my throats scratchy, the phlegm is going overtime. I'm gagging and choking.

Seriously, I wonder if I'm going to live long enough to move out of this awful place.

:( Would breathing behind a damp handkerchief help any? Is it allergies or smoke? If allergies, is there anything you can take that might help? Ugh, so sorry.

It's mostly the burning of leaves that's the problem. It's highly toxic and probably the most environmentally unsound approach to getting rid of leaves that the average person could pull off. The sad thing is it's perfectly legal in unincorporated Gwinnett to burn leaves from October to May every year and more than two dozen people in this neighborhood like to all do it on exactly the same day.

I'm also deathly allergic. The effect is a dozenfold worse than cigarette smoke. Anyone who's ever lit a cigarette around me will know what that means.

The best thing I could do is to move far away from any idiot who thinks burning leaves is a keen idea.

Okay, I wasn't going to but I have to add,

A wet cloth might work short term but I don't think it's sustainable for hours and hours especially while trying to sleep. :) Not to mention the tendinitis that's sure to result.

Or am I missing something here?

You'd probably need something more like an entire damp tent to sleep inside, yeah. I'm aware it's not practical longterm, I was just throwing out short-term thoughts you'd probably already had and sympathy. :)

Ah...:) One idea I considered was sealing up an area airtight with plastic and using a HEPA filter system. Something along the lines of a clean room. :) Yes, I know how dangerous and unwise it could be to actually do that.

Yeah, I'm glad you decided not to risk suffocation there. :)
