This evening I remembered I purchased a pack of Christmas cards last year. I assumed it was the box on top of the bookcase in the living room so I checked when I got home. Nice cards but there were only six left in the box and other telltales in the box established a 2011 date. So, a half hour later I finally found the box I bought last year. My first thought upon looking at them was "What was I thinking?" Obviously twelve months ago I thought they were a good choice. Still, what was I thinking?!

It's not that they're horrible looking cards. It's just that I usually gravitate towards dark colors and twilight landscapes and these cards are almost a diametric opposite of that. They're really not to my usual tastes at all and I can't figure out what would have compelled me to choose this design a year ago.

My little stack of holiday cards is in the mailbox waiting to be picked up.  I got around to it later than I would have liked. It would have been better to have gotten them in the mail on the fifteenth or earlier.

It is too wet outside for a walk today. Arthritis is acting up but that can likely be attributed to the weather. My Yuletide shopping is mostly finished.

I've finished my Yuletide shopping for the most part. All that really remains are a few mp3 album purchases that'll wait until Christmas Eve.

Okay, I'm editing this a little and excising the final paragraph. I'd made a stab at using the voice typing feature but that produced nothing but nonsensical gibberish. Not that that wasn't unexpected.

Took another walk following the same route as the last couple days. Today I walked all the way to Hwy 78 and walked around Walgreens for a bit before heading back. A round trip of about 2.2 miles give or take a few steps. My knee started giving me trouble on the way back at about a third of a mile towards the house. It looks like two miles is going to be my limit for a little while. I don' t think it'd be wise to try to push further than that until I can make the two miles without problems.

Being limited to a two mile walking range makes me unhappy. Nobody to blame but myself. I should have been walking at least that everyday for the past several years.  I can remember when I could walk ten miles at a stretch. I'd like to be able to do that again but I don't know that I ever will. Age is catching up to me.

Today is 12.12.12. I feel like I should do something special to mark the day but haven't a clue what. It'll be a century before year, day, and month converge like that again. Of course that assumes humans will be using the same calendar in a hundred years. It seems like a safe bet but you never know what the future might hold.

Should I bother with holiday cards this year? On one hand I'd like to keep up the tradition but on the other hand a shocking number of the cards I sent last year were returned undelivered. And I don't recall that I got any cards myself. Oh well...

Is it me or have there been a bunch of changes to the Eljay interface lately?

Just thought I'd make a quick post here to let everyone know I'm still around. Things are mostly okay. I'm dealing with high blood pressure and hopefully a medication that actually works can be found soon. It's always been on the high side but for the last year or two it's been excessively so.

I've been debating whether to do holiday cards this year. I'm thinking that if I do I won't be buying any new cards this year. Instead I'm going to round up all the left over cards from past years and use those. Get those out of the way for a fresher start to 2013. I think I've got five or six boxes with just three or four cards in them. Should be enough.

I've been reading the Vorkosigan books by Lois McMaster Bujold in a rather haphazard order as I can lay hands on them. I don't know why I've never bothered to read them before now.

I'm seriously considering getting a Kindle Fire this year. I want one mostly for the access to magazines that the publishers have decided must only be available for tablet devices rather than e-ink devices. I think it's stupid personally, but what can you do? I'd also like one for the other features too. I've been wanting something like this since forever but have heretofore refrained because the options either didn't impress me or had aspects that I found repulsive.

This past week I got some work done on the projects I'm supposed to be working on. Really not much to be said there.

I got that box spring out the door. Decided not to ponder what those large yellow stains were overmuch. It was picked up this morning. It's now possible to get to just about everything in the room so that's a definite improvement. Now, I have the huge chair, computer table, a hamper full of blankets(?), two chests of drawers, a hospital bed, a strange exercise contraption, a desk chair, a sewing machine table with sewing machine mounted, a wheeled cabinet, and the contents of the two closets and everything stuffed into everything else to deal with.

I finally picked up the holiday debris in the living room. Shipping boxes and wrapping paper for the most part. Calling that room the living room is questionable. I don't spend much time in there and it really only gets used during special occasions and such. I'd refer to it as a parlor but that tends to get confused looks. This house really has two rooms that could be called a living room. The one that the front door opens into and the really large room in the back. I tend to think of the latter as the living room. Those who've been in the house will know what I'm talking about. Anyrate, the front room has been picked up and swept.

No news on my search for an electronic notebook/PDA this week. Right now, I'm waiting for various products to be released and we'll see what turns up. I'd like to get something by summer since it's possible I may be doing some traveling this year.

That's pretty much it for this past week.

Holidays are over and things are finally returning to normal. Whether this is a good or bad depends largely on your perspective. Me, I'm going with "Meh."

The Holiday cards were sent out the second week of December. I sent out 15 cards and received a total of 2. Interesting.

The 1994 Sunbird is currently out of my garage and in my brother's now. It desperately needs a new radiator. The question is is it worth putting a new one in the thing?

I'm finally rid of that stinky gray chair I've been trying to get out of here for atleast three years. It was a recliner but that no longer worked because it had a few bolts that had sheared. Once it was gone I found a couple cleaved off bolt heads where it had sat.

I didn't get much reading done over the past month. I'm hoping to have time to do more reading this month. We'll see.

I continue to have sinus problems which suspiciously go away when I spend enough time away from this house.

Been awhile

It's been awhile since I've posted anything here so this is an update I guess.

I still haven't found an electronic replacement for my everywhere journal but we'll see.

My brother finally got the 1994 Sunbird squared away and it passed the emissions inspection. We only had to replace the battery and the alternator and patch the radiator to get the thing working again.

I need to get stuff together for the Holiday/Christmas/Yule/Whatever cards this year. Like as not this year I'll probably go through the cards I got last year and only send cards to those people. Seems like a plan at anyrate. I still haven't gotten the cards yet but I hope to at some point this week.

I've read over forty books on my Kindle DX so far. Not too bad for a four month period. Oddly I find that I prefer reading in the landscape rather than portrait orientation. It just seems more comfortable that way. It's so nice to be able to adjust text size while reading. When my eyes start to get tired I just bump it up a notch or two. :)

The evil trash-burning neighbors moved out the other month. Maybe my sinuses will get a little better soon. I'm still having that crackle in the skull thing, I've had since shortly after those morons moved in. It might be getting less frequent though, we'll see.

That's all for now.

Not a great deal to talk about. My current projects are coming along. I'm in better spirits this year than I was last year at this time. Not sure why, only thing really different from last year is that I have much more to keep me busy this year.

In other news I'm about to sit down and finish getting the holiday cards ready to mail. Looks like I'll be sending out fourteen cards. There were fewer leftovers this year since the card I bought came in 18 to a box rather than 30. The same as last year. I hope I'm not sending them out too early. The folks I consulted suggested the end of the first week of December as the ideal time to drop them in the mail. I think last year I waited until the second or third week and I seem to recall at least one person telling me the card arrived after the 26th.

I'll be doing holiday cards again this year. The cards I've selected for this year are a little fancier than what I sent out last year. I'll be using the same list I used last year with two address changes noted. I'll get them in the mail this coming weekend.

If you want to be added to my holiday card list just drop me a line via email or use the handy feedback form on my website.

My eldest brother is back in California after a two week stay for Thanksgiving as of last weekend. I've got a dozen holiday cards ready to be mailed. I'll probably do that next weekend if all goes well. Failing that I'll probably put them in the mailbox with the flag up for the mail carrier to pick up. Looks like I'm sending out fourteen cards this year. Two of them landed in the mail a tad earlier than I intended. I'd left them in the letter holder by the door and my brother grabbed them one day and took them to the post office with some stuff he wanted to mail. Oh, if anyone reading this wants a card this year, I've still got cards and stamps to go around. Just drop me a line with a postal address or something. (I'll set comment screening for all comments for this post.)

I've continued to take pictures of the progress on the new storm drain The Storm Drain gallery is up to 85 images now. For those few who might be interested the gallery can be found on my web site. There's a link to it in an earlier entry,

My yuletide shopping continues. All of it being conducted online which as I recall is how it was last year as well. I guess that's the 21st century for you.

I didn't post anything in November largely because I didn't have anything positive to say. My thanksgiving was fairly lonesome. I was very sick for much of the month thanks to influenza. It pretty well sent me reeling for a couple weeks there.

I've been playing a great deal of Lego Star Wars 2: The Original Trilogy on the Playstation 2. I'm up to 95.4% completion according to the stats. It's one of the better games I've played lately. I don't know if it's anyone else's cup of tea but I'm really enjoying it. That said, I'm going to have to take a long break from it, I think. I've got a sharp pain in the region of my left bicep and my hands are aching rather much. All sure signs that I've been playing with the PS2 too much lately. Anyone else have this problem?
