One thing I've noticed is that dust had collected around them. There was a heavy deposit of dust between the plastic boxes and the foot of the bookcase and slightly lighter all around where they sat. I vacuumed up most of it but still need to do a bit more work on it. I'll probably do that this evening.

I've been going through my bedroom closet this week. I haven't really done much with it in years. Generally the clothes I've been wearing these past several years I just lay out on a chair or on the stand that had until recently been parked in front of the closet. The clothing in the closet is stuff I haven't worn since 2009 or so. The other stuff in there are mostly things that were tossed in to get them out of the way. That's the only explanation I can find for the stack of empty computer component boxes I found in there. The longbow and the quarterstaff on the other hand I remember vividly. The longbow belonged to my father and is sixty years old. The quarterstaff I've had since 1998, it was a gift from an old friend who passed away a few years back.
I just poked around on the shelf just now, there wasn't a great deal on it. Found some old disks and CDs that look to be mostly backups of old projects. There were a few mementos from events of the first year I lived in the house. Also found a forgotten box containing a packet of hydroentangled polyester wipes. Used to use them for cleaning camera lenses back when. There was a pair of SanDisk earbuds up there too. Those probably came with the mp3 player I got in 2006. I prefer headphones to earbuds, probably always will.
Sometimes I get this sense that I'm camping out in my own house. I never intended to be living here this long. When I moved here I had a plan to only stay a year or two and move on where opportunity led. Things don't always work out as we hope.
Mysterious Scrawlings
Dec. 31st, 2012 04:04 pmThis was found in a notecase in the back of my closet. I assume this piece of paper is from the same time period as the little pocket journal it was found with. Judging by the contents the pocket journal dates from the time I was recovering from surgery in 2000. Nothing in the journal sheds light on what this might be. Anybody got any clues?
Somewhat disconcerting is that I have no recollection of the little journal. The handwriting in it is definitely my own though.
Once again, here's a post
Feb. 15th, 2010 02:17 pmIt snowed most of the day Friday. It's nearly all melted as I write this.
Not much to be said this week. Oh well.
Another dull week, another boring entry...
Feb. 8th, 2010 01:18 pmI got that box spring out the door. Decided not to ponder what those large yellow stains were overmuch. It was picked up this morning. It's now possible to get to just about everything in the room so that's a definite improvement. Now, I have the huge chair, computer table, a hamper full of blankets(?), two chests of drawers, a hospital bed, a strange exercise contraption, a desk chair, a sewing machine table with sewing machine mounted, a wheeled cabinet, and the contents of the two closets and everything stuffed into everything else to deal with.
I finally picked up the holiday debris in the living room. Shipping boxes and wrapping paper for the most part. Calling that room the living room is questionable. I don't spend much time in there and it really only gets used during special occasions and such. I'd refer to it as a parlor but that tends to get confused looks. This house really has two rooms that could be called a living room. The one that the front door opens into and the really large room in the back. I tend to think of the latter as the living room. Those who've been in the house will know what I'm talking about. Anyrate, the front room has been picked up and swept.
No news on my search for an electronic notebook/PDA this week. Right now, I'm waiting for various products to be released and we'll see what turns up. I'd like to get something by summer since it's possible I may be doing some traveling this year.
That's pretty much it for this past week.
Another week, another update
Feb. 1st, 2010 11:41 am( Behind this cut there's a long rambling rumination on various smallish or handheld devices I've looked at or considered as a paper notebook/journal replacement. Don't expect it to be all that organized. It could probably use a pass or two by a copy editor but if I were going to worry about that today I'd probably never bother to post any of this stuff. )
In other news I need to lose about 5 lbs which means I need to get more exercise. That should be easy enough as far as it goes.
I guess that's all for now.
Weekly update
Jan. 27th, 2010 06:31 pmI think this is the year I need to finally empty my mother's old room and get things squared away for whatever repairs need to be done to that room. I've been putting it off for four years now. Just need to get the bed out of there so I can have enough room to move around in there. My mother liked to keep rooms tightly packed wall to wall with furniture and stuff. The bed will probably go to the side of the road a component at a time since I now know the trash collector will pick up one and only large item a week. Maybe getting it out of the house will help my sinuses a little. Who knows?
Apple announced the iPad today which is certainly going on my list of candidates for journal book replacement. It would seem more viable for the role than the iPod Touch. However, a cheaper netbook is still looking like what I'll end up getting.
I'm currently reading Fragile Things by Neil Gaiman and Pirate Latitudes by Michael Crichton. Also reading a collection of essays about Firefly/Serenity which so far has been a little annoying in that the first few essays seem more about tearing down every other bit of television science fiction in attempt to show how wonderful Firefly is in comparison. I'm hoping that the essays get better further in. I also loaded the Kindle with a few collections of H.P. Lovecraft's fiction the other night. I've been meaning to catch up on my reading of his work and now seems like as good a time as any.
Clearing some shelves
May. 19th, 2009 05:21 pmAmong the books I'd like to unload my shelf of Doctor Who books, chiefly the Missing Adventures and New Adventures novels I have. I haven't really wanted to read them in the last ten years and would like to see them go to someone who'll appreciate them.
Checking in for January 2009.
Jan. 28th, 2009 01:57 pmIn other news the three projects, which I shall not name here, that I've been working on for the last year or so and more than a decade in the case of one, are coming along. I'm hoping this year that collaborative project I've been working on, off and on for so many years, with

( My New Year's resolution. )
Worryingly Monday evening I noticed my left arm appears to be all scratched up. A dozen red lines up and down the arm. Looks like something took a few good claw swipes at me. For the ife of me I can't figure out how they got there. As I write this all but the worst of them seem to be fading nicely. I'm thinking it might just be the dry air making my skin crack though I've never before seen such dramatic marks over such a large area before caused by that.
I hope everyone is having a good year so far.
