Since my last post I finally acquired a new cell phone. The new on is Alcatel One Touch Retro. (Flip phones are considered retro nowadays?) This is the fourth cellular phone I've ever owned. The first one I had I used for ten years. The subsequent phones have lasted four and three years respectively. It'll be interesting to see how long this Alcatel holds up.

You may need a new cellular phone carrier if you frequently find yourself resorting to radio jargon and the NATO phonetic alphabet to make yourself understood.

Well, I'm still alive folks. Blood pressure is still an issue. Pain levels have been a bit elevated of late. Not sure what's up with that.

Evidently I need to figure out how to turn off whatever's reposting my tweets in my LJ. Not sure how that got turned on.

I had to get a new cellphone this past weekend. My old one was getting harder and harder to charge. I think the charging port was coming loose from the board. At any rate, I went with another flip phone and hoping to get at least four years out of it. It's pretty much just the newer  model of what I've had since 2008. Of course I got stuck with another two year contract but that's probably not going to be a problem.

What are folks reading this month? I'm looking for suggestions for my next book.

If I haven't yet I'd like to say thank you to those of you who answered my question regarding cell phones from some months back. I'm still using the phone I've been using since 2008. It's the second cellular phone I've ever owned. I used my first phone for over 10 years. I wonder if that's some kind of a record? I kind of miss the heft of that thing sometimes. Most of the time though I'm kind of glad I no longer carry a phone that requires a belt holster to carry it comfortably.

I bought my brother a WikiReader for his birthday. I found them on sale for $20 so I bought two, one for him and one for myself. Figured if nothing else I might be able to do something interesting with it. It's a nice device for the price. I wouldn't want to pay much more than $20 for one though.

My posts here during 2011 were few and far between. I think I may have put more verbiage on Twitter last year than my LiveJournal entries in total. Would anyone reading this be interested in seeing more frequent posts from me this year? Is anyone still reading my entries for that matter?

I'm currently reading Javascript: The Good Parts by Douglas Crockford, Cooking for Geeks: Real Science, Great Hacks, and Good Food by Jeff Potter, and A Sparrow Falls by Wilbur Smith.

[Poll #1752817]I'm curious how often people change cell phones. I've noticed some people seem to have a new phone every time I see them.  On the other hand I used my first cell phone for a decade before circumstances necessitated a change. I've had my current one since 2008 and I've been thinking lately it might be time to see if I can't get something better. Something that works decently in my house would be kind of nice.

I recently had cause to look for a pay phone. It's probably isn't much of a surprise to anyone reading this that I didn't find one. I did find a few stands where payphones may once have resided but the phones themselves were long gone. It's another reminder just how much the world has changed in my nearly 4 decades on this Earth. My teen years were in the 80s and I can remember when coin operated phones were pretty much ubiquitous. You could expect to find one, if not several, within 10 miles or so if you looked. That's no longer the case it seems. I wonder if they'll ever make a come back. With the ubiquity of cel phones these days I can't think why they ever would. Still, they were a part of the culture of a time I hold dear and I'm going to miss those days.

In related news I'm going to stop by a Sprint store, the next time I get the opportunity. I want to see about getting a spare battery for my phone. (I had one for my old phone but I forgot to ask about it when I got it.) They're handy to have.
