The desk chair I bought a few years ago was recalled. Apparently the weld on the base has been known to break causing the base to separate from the seat. The potential for injury is obvious. I've been sitting on the chair just about daily in the years I've had it and haven't had the weld fail yet. Though looking at it, it's plainly visible that it's not a good weld. I wasn't going to bother with the recall until someone recently reminded me that people do visit me occasionally and many of those people are heavier than I am. I'm a fairly small person. Someone closer to average adult weight or heavier might be just heavy enough to break the weld. After more thought I went ahead and took it to the nearest store and got a gift card in return for it.

I had intended to buy a new chair while I was there but upon looking at the rather meager selection of chairs they had I couldn't find one that appealed to me.  At the moment I'm sitting on a rather uncomfortable stool as I type this. It'll be a week before I can get a ride to another store to look for a new chair.

I'm not really sure what I'm going to do in the meantime. I guess I won't be sitting at this console all that much. I'm still not really up to speed on the new computer and I'm still hoping I might be able to get the old one up and running again.

My lower back is starting to ache so I'm going to close here. I'll try to post something again soon.

Chair...

A couple weeks ago I posted about my frustrations with shopping and subsequent order of a new computer chair. The chair came in the following Tuesday and I've had it now for about two weeks. It's not a bad chair. It's a very nice chair for the price. It'll do the job for a few years I think. Probably not the 20 years my previous computer chair served though. It's hard to believe that I'd been sitting in the same chair for two decades. No wonder it looked so ratty.

You'd imagine shopping for a simple desk chair online would be a simple proposition. How complicated could it possibly be? It's just a chair after all. Well, aside from the fact that you can never be completely sure what you're ordering, there are lots of choices do you want high-back, mid-back, low-back? Leather or cloth or whatever? If that weren't enough under low-back alone you have several hundred to choose from. Again, you aren't really sure what you're really looking at as you go through the choices, so you don't want to spend too much for fear that you might end up with one that doesn't really work for you.

The last time I had cause to shop for a computer chair way back when I went to a store. They had about thirty different models on display, One could look at them, sit on them, try them out and winnow down the choices to the most suitable choices and then decide by price among those that remain. Now, however I find myself ordering a chair based on a picture and brief description. Hopefully it's the one for me and not the one made for Papa Bear.
