More New Year's Musings

It feels strange noting this but I've kept the same email address and webspace since 13 January 1998. Before that I'd used The INDEX System as my main internet email provider.
I've had my mindspring email address for 8 years now. A big part of my keeping it has been that I've wanted, old friends, who've lost touch with me for one reason or another, to be able to find me easily. It hasn't really worked all that well though. Everytime I've heard from someone I haven't heard from in a few years that always tell me how hard I am to find. Apparently it never occurs to people to try emailing me at that last known email address. As I think about it, it occurs to me also that I've kept the same ICQ uin and AIM screen name since 1998, possibly even 1997, as well.
Among the people I know keeping the same addresses for so long is unusual. Many folks seem to change email addresses on an annual basis. Perhaps that's why it never seems to occur to my old acquaintances to try that last known email address or IM ident?
Now I find myself pondering dropping my Mindspring/Earthlink account and moving my webpages to another provider. I've had BellSouth DSL for a year now. Earthlink couldn't provide me with DSL out here, so after the move I switched to dial-up and kept looking for broadband options and eventually ended up going to BellSouth FastAccess. I've kept my Mindspring account for the reasons I mentioned behind the cut above.
Anyrate, I'm pondering moving to a web hosting provider.
frostedelves has suggested one that looks very promising, indeed. Do any of you have any web hosting sites that you've been really impressed with?
